Describe the relationships between the class theme and the story.
The relation between Humanity and The Portable Phonograph is that the story is about human nature. Once you get something, you want more of it. Humans always want more, even if they have to steal for it. We can never be satisfied.

1.) The story was set somewhere in the 1900s. No one used phonographs in the 2000s, we use CD players and iPods, so it must be somewhere in the 1900s.

2.) The purpose of the men’s meeting was so that the men would not fall insane. They listened to the phonograph so that they would regain some of the humanity that they have lost. The author compared unwrapping the book bundle to a ceremonial rite because the author was trying to point out that humanity is very important.

3.) The significance of the books that were saved were that they were all part of history. They were recognised even though they have been written hundreds of years ago. The reason they did not use recent work fiction was that there was no guarantee that the fiction book would become part of history.

4a.) The purpose of Dr.Jenkins clutching that lead pipe was that if someone were to strangle him in his sleep to steal the phonograph, he could easily just whack the attacker unconscious

4b.) Considering there was a coughing noise and that Dr.Jenkins was scared out of his mind, I think that the musician is going to enter and try to take the phonograph from the old man.
